Actor Ricardo Medina, Jr. starred in several small roles on television programs such as ER and CSI: Miami, but the role that Medina would become most famous for was that of the red ranger in Power Rangers Wild Force, and returning to the franchise again in 2011 to star in the series Power Rangers Samurai. Actors like Medina dream of the day that their name is in the news, but it wouldn’t be Medina’s acting that would send his name into the headlines.
In 2015, Medina had invited his girlfriend to his home. His roommate, Joshua Sutter, did not like this idea. Medina and Sutter argued about how Medina’s girlfriend had parked outside of the Los Angeles home he and Sutter shared and the argument quickly escalated. Medina locked himself and his girlfriend in his bedroom while Sutter continued the argument from the other side of the door.
Medina believed that he and his girlfriend would be safe and things would calm down. According to Medina, Sutter kicked down the bedroom door and charged at him. Medina grabbed the closest weapon, which happened to have been a sword and stabbed Sutter in the stomach. Sutter later died from his injuries.
The Sun reports that Medina called 911 and told the operator what had occurred. Police placed Medina under arrest but he was later allowed out on bond. Medina was re-arrested in January of 2016 on the charge of first-degree murder.
Working out a deal, Medina agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. On March 31, 2017, Medina was officially sentenced to serve six years in prison – the maximum possible sentence for the charge.
