On August 31st, Charlie Carver and his girlfriend Kala Brown seemed to vanish into thin air. Left behind were medications, glasses and contacts, as well as the one thing Kala would never dream of abandoning, her beloved pet Pomeranian, found to have no food or water. Friends and family hadn’t heard a word from either of them and with both their cellphones dead, people began to fear the worst. That’s when the Facebook posts started.
Carver had a Facebook account, but friends say Brown was the more active of the pair, with Carver rarely posting anything online. Life events started to appear and cryptic messages taunting friends and family of the missing couple gave them glimmers of hope that the couple was alive and well somewhere, but remained suspicious about the unusual wording and messages that would never have come from Carver.
With few leads in the case, investigators aren’t ruling anything out, including the mysterious Facebook posts. The account has since been removed, after reports of the hacked account poured in from people across the country.
Carver and Brown had only been seeing each other a few short months when he and Brown moved in together. Carver was in the process of going through a divorce at the time of the couple’s disappearance.
Family of the missing couple say that they are concerned that the Facebook posts may lead some to believe that the couple is fine and simply took off on an unannounced vacation, but they insist that sort of behavior is not characteristic of either of them. Kala’s mother Bobbie told Dateline, “It’s not that they just haven’t talked to their moms, no one has heard from them.”
Carver was last seen on surveillance footage leaving his workplace on the evening of August 31st, while Kala last had lunch with a friend on August 29th, but others had been in contact with her until the same date as Carver’s last known whereabouts. Missing along with the couple is Carver’s Pontiac Grand Prix with the license plate HWY224.
Any information about the missing couple can be forwarded to the Anderson, South Carolina Police Department at 864-260-4444. Administrators of the “Help Find Charlie ‘David’ Carver and Kala Brown” Facebook page have also encouraged people to take photographs of any possible sightings to assist them in determining whether or not the couple sighted is really Brown and Carver.
