Some believe that the stars determine our personalities, but is there a particular month of the year which may influence one to become a serial killer? Surprisingly, yes. Whether it’s the alignment of the stars or mere coincidence, November seems to have the right conditions for fostering serial killers. Today we’ll take a look at some of the murderers born in this month and their despicable crimes in no particular order.
Carl Eugene Watts
It is suspected that he killed his first victim before the age of 15, but his serial killer career wouldn’t begin until the age of 20. He was prone to torture and murder fantasies. Dubbed “The Early Morning Slasher”, his victims were young girls between the ages of 14 and 44. Watts used various methods of killing, which included stabbing, drowning, bludgeoning and strangulation. Watts usually killed women by kidnapping them from their residence. Between 1974 and 1982 he murdered dozens of women and remained undetected for 8 years. The reason he was not discovered was that he enacted his violence in several jurisdictions besides Texas. Even though DNA testing was available, he never sexually assaulted his victims. He was caught on May 23, 1982 for breaking into a home of two young women. While he was held, the police connected him to recent murders in Houston. He had also resided in Michigan in the early years of 1981 and stood accused of murdering at least 10 women and girls there. The prosecutors decide to plea bargain because of lack of evidence. He confessed to 12 plus and an additional 40 murders and it is suggested there were 80 victims. He was finally convicted and sentenced to life in prison on December 7, 2004.
This British serial killer had butchered 15 or more men. Born on November 23, 1945 he committed his murders in London, England. He was dubbed “The Muswell Hill Murderer” and his horrific means include using corpses for sex acts. He was caught after getting rid of dismembered human remains which caused a drain blockage in his home. The company working on the cleanup found the carnage and contacted the police. His murder victims were usually students or homeless men he met in bars and invited into his home. His acts have since been compared Jeffrey Dahmer. He strangled and drowned these men sometime during the evening and he would wake with no recollection of the crime. He disposed of these bodies using the butchering skills taught in the Army.
Prior to moving into his London flat Nilson owned a home where he would burn human remains. In 1981, when the murders mounted, he had to trash the corpses and used suitcases for storage and plastic bags hidden under the floorboards. He would spray his apartment several times a day in order to keep the smell at bay. He was arrested in 1983 on the suspicion of multiple murders. He was sentenced to a life term by the Home Secretary.
David Parker Ray
David Parker Ray, born on November 6, 1939 was an American who committed his killings in New Mexico. He is named “The Toy-Box Killer” and he may be responsible for up to 60 homicides. They were all women and their bodies were never recovered. His victims were imprisoned in a homemade torture chamber along with tools, such as clamps, whips, and saws. He was also aided in his terror by accomplices. While in the torture room a recorded audio tape would play when the victims were conscious. In plain sight were diagrams drawn by Ray displaying different ways to inflict pain and also an electricity generated device. There was a victim who managed to escape after being captured for three days. Cynthia Vigil waited until he went to work and took the keys to her chains from Ray’s accomplice Cindy Hendy. Hendy tried to prevent her escape. The two fought and Vigil was the victor. After his arrest, he was sentence to 224 years and convicted of many offenses such as abduction and sexual torture of three young women. Ray had a heart attack and died after serving only eight months of his sentence.
This British serial killer did her murders with her husband. Fred West killed 10 young people including their own children. Aside from Fred’s daughter, Charmaine, and her own daughter, Heather, West and her husband would often pick up young girls from the bus stations and held them captive in their home for days before slaying them. Inquiries were made about her whereabouts and West told friends and other individuals that she was away working. Rosemary was arrested in 1997 for child cruelty. Her other daughter did not testify and the case was dropped in 1993. In 1995, she was finally found guilty by a jury on 10 counts. The judge sentenced her to lifein prison. She was the second British woman to ever be handed the sentence.
This South African serial killer was born on November 17, 1964. He was also known as “The ABC Murderer” because he began his rampage in Alterrie, Boksburg, and ended in Cleveland. His killing spree began in 1994. He often pretended to be a businessman providing work for a fictional charity. When he peaked their interest, he lured his victims to his so-called “headquarters”. Once alone and out of earshot he would attack, rape, and strangle them. By 1995 his victims climbed to over 30 and panic erupted. To add to these atrocities, he would call the victim’s family and tease them. In August he was identified and the police found out about the fake company. He went on the run and was captured, even though he rushed the authorities with an axe. He was shot twice and confessed while in police custody. He was charged with 38 murders, 40 rapes, and six robberies. It was later discovered that he was HIV positive. He is currently serving out his sentence in a maximum security prison.
