In August of 2016, a crew of EMS workers had pulled into the parking lot of the Friendship Food Store, located in the rural town of Norwalk, Ohio. The medical team had been dispatched to a call near the store. After returning to the parking lot from the call they noticed a strange looking bag in the field next to the parking lot. One paramedic went to investigate the contents of the bag, determining that it was possibly a heart and potentially human in origin.

The heart was discovered in a field behind the Friendship Food Store located on Milan Ave. in Norwalk, Ohio.

Paramedics were able to dispatch local police in order to report their peculiar findings. Investigators were just as perplexed by the find, noting that there had been no reports taken on corpses missing a heart, nor any sort of grave robbery or desecration of a corpse cases reported within the area.

Police say that the heart appeared to have been in good condition with very little decomposition present at the time of the organ’s discovery. The heart had been stored in a clear plastic zip bag and appeared to have been suspended in an unknown solution.

A local veterinarian examined the heart and it was able to be determined that the heart did indeed belong to a human, with a 95 percent certainty. According to The Norwalk Reflector the Huron County Coroner has told them that,

“no one has stepped forward to claim it.”

The case continues to remain a mystery as the investigation into the heart’s origin is underway, sparking speculation about organ thieves and the black market organ trade.

One possible lead involves another bizarre case dating back to December of 2014. A Pennsylvania boy found a human head buried in the snow. The head had been sliced from the victim’s neck with surgical precision and there had been evidence of the head having undergone the embalming process prior to being abandoned in the field. Most disturbing about the case is that the eyes had been removed from the female head and replaced with rubber balls, similar to the ones found in capsule machines commonly found in the storefront of grocery and convenient stores.

EmbalmedHead

Testing is still ongoing in order to determine whether or not the heart had been embalmed. If tests can determine that the heart has gone through the embalming process, police from both districts plan to work closely together in hopes that their efforts will resolve both of these bizarre cases.
