On March 18, 2015, Michelle Wilkins responded to a Craigslist ad looking for baby clothes. We know all too well what happened next. In a heart-wrenching testimony that cuts as bad as when we first heard it, Wilkins describes what happened to her on the worst day of her life.
Dynel Lane, who faked her pregnancy before attacking Wilkins, was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and unlawful termination of a pregnancy.
Wilkins, alongside a picture of her unborn daughter, got the opportunity to address her attacker directly on the stand:
“It is clear that you need healing and it is my sincere belief that you get it. You’d knowingly left me to die, multiple times. The only tears that you shed during the trial were those of self-pity to the sound of your own voice as your lies were slowly revealed.
“I believe you have lost your privilege to live in our society not only because of your actions during the attack, but also your actions since the attack. Your inability to acknowledge the immense cruelty and evil you committed only proves you are not fit to talk freely amongst us ever again.”
Lane was sentenced to 100 years.
