Police say a domestic incident turned deadly on the night of Thanksgiving. A youth pastor has since been arrested for allegedly gunning down his family.
58-year-old Christopher Gattis has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently being held in Virginia’s Chesterfield County Jail.
When police arrived on the scene they found Gattis’ wife, 58-year-old Jeanett Gattis, and daughter, 30-year-old Candice Kunze, dead on the kitchen floor after having been shot. Kunze’s boyfriend, 36-year-old Andrew Buthorn, was also found dead outside the home.
According to reports, friends and neighbors are shocked to hear the news. Those who spoke to reporters described the family as tight-knit and never suspected there were any problems.
WTVR also reached out to Grace Lutheran Church, where Gattis worked as a full-time youth pastor. A deacon for the church described Gattis as an “excellent man.” Another church member also told reporters that Gattis frequently attended church services, including the Thanksgiving service held that Thursday.
At this time the murders are still considered to be an on-going investigation.
