The murders of eight women in three different states may have never been solved if not for a prostitute coming forward with a bizarre tale.

Between the years of 1986 and 1996 eight women were brutally murdered across the states of California, Indiana and Illinois. Some were found with a gunshot wound to the head, floating down a river. Others were left to the elements; naked, bound, and exposed to the desert sand and sun. All are seemingly unconnected until a common thread is revealed - Andrew Urdiales.

The ex-marine turned security guard used that falsehood of protective services to commit heinous crimes. He was a serial killer with an obsession for prostitutes. His killing spree would have likely continued if it weren’t for the courageous woman who spent a night with a “John” and felt compelled to report his bizarre behavior to the police.

His confession turned to bragging as detectives across the country were notified of the names of his victims, closing cold cases that had laid open for years: Robbin Brandley, Julie McGhee, Mary Ann Wells, Tammie Erwin, Denise Maney, Laura Ulyaki, Cassandra Corum and Lynn Huber. Among his victims was one survivor - Jennifer Asbenson, who had been convinced by family, medical professionals and law enforcement that her experiences were a figment of her overactive nineteen-year-old imagination until Urdiales confirmed her escape.

Join Sword and Scale as we interview the Palm Springs detectives who connected the California murders to the midwest murders and viciously fought for the death penalty, the victim’s family members whose lives have been forever changed by a single gruesome act and the sole survivor of the monster that is Andrew Urdiales.
