Bonus Content
Piñon Arizona is a small town on the border of the Hopi Reservation and Navajo Nation. It’s quiet, remote, and desolate. In the summer of 2019, Jamie Yazzie, a beloved mother of three, suddenly disappears. Some say she skipped town, others assume she’s on a bender. Contrarily, her family immediately suspects foul play. After a 911 call goes unanswered for 4 days, evidence is eventually collected and stowed on a shelf. As Jamie’s abusive boyfriend lives freely, a revolution is rising.
For two years Jamie’s family searches the desert high and low. Miles are walked amongst the pinyon trees and cacti. The MMIWR Movement - Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives - gains traction on the news, social media and other public forums. When her remains are finally found, justice for Jamie can be served.
Join Sword and Scale as we interview Jamie’s family members who suffered through this lengthy judicial process, the news reporter who brought the MMIWR movement to mainstream media, and the lawyer and MMIWR advocate who fought for Jamie’s rights and offered support and guidance to her family through the most painful time of their lives.
