The rapper Nelly has been arrested after a woman alleged the musician raped her on his tour bus.
TMZ reports that at approximately 3:45 am on October 7, 2017, the unidentified woman boarded Nelly’s tour bus, which had been parked at a Walmart 20 miles away from the venue, following his Auburn, Washington performance. While there are few details of what occurred on the bus at this time, the woman specifically named Nelly as her alleged rapist.
Nelly, who has been on tour with Florida Georgia Line, was next scheduled to perform in Ridgefield, Washington tonight. Instead, police say he is now sitting behind bars. He was booked at approximately 6:29 am in Des Moines, Washington. No word on when bail will be set.
According to USA Today, Nelly has been charged with rape in the second degree, indicating that force had been used or the victim had not been able to consent due to being physically helpless, mentally incapacitated, or developmentally disabled.
This isn’t the first time the hip-hop star has run into legal trouble. In April of 2015 CNN reports that Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes, Jr., was arrested after a Tennessee state trooper pulled over his tour bus and found marijuana, meth, and handguns on board. The rapper was charged with felony drug possession, simple marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The felony drug possession charge was later dropped when he agreed to plead guilty to possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
