Police say 31-year-old Corey Berry of Hollis, Maine had been intoxicated when he decided to duct tape a machete to his amputated arm and put on a clown costume. Witnesses began calling police to report the evil clown sighting at approximately 6 pm on July 26, 2017.
Berry was spotted haunting the vicinity of the Little Mart convenience store before hiding in the woods. The clown managed to evade police for approximately an hour before he was picked up two miles away in Waterboro.
According to police, Berry told them that he was only playing a prank. Berry wanted to emulate the creepy clown sightings that have been sprouting up across the nation. He was arrested and later posted his $200 bail.
Berry is just the latest of a rash of clown sightings that reached their peak in the fall of 2016, just in time for Halloween. While most of these “creepy clowns” turned out to be pranks, there were some cases where the clowns had physically attacked people.
With Halloween looming in the near future, are we looking at a second wave of clown hysteria or will Berry’s prank usher in the end to the hysteria for good?
