Three people have been hospitalized after a man dress in a Santa Claus suit opened fire at a Halloween party.
According to a report from The Statesman, police were called at 6:12 am on October 29, 2017, to a home in Austin, Texas’ North Loop neighborhood. Three people were taken to a local hospital on account of injuries sustained by the gunfire. One woman and a man are listed in critical condition, while another woman has been reported to be in “serious” condition. In spite of the serious injuries sustained by the party-goers, they are expected to make a full recovery.
A fourth person was also injured at the scene but refused medical attention. It is not clear whether or not that person had been shot.
Police were able to quickly apprehend the suspect after he fled to a second location on the same block and “made contact” with other individuals. Police say there was no violence reported there and they were able to arrest the suspect without the use of force. The man dressed as Santa, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being released back to police.
While officers have not reported a clear motive behind the shooting, they have indicated that the victims knew the man.
The shooting incident came to a shock to residents of the North Loop community. Reports describe the neighborhood as “idyllic” and officials have stated that they don’t expect a rise in violent crimes during the Halloween season.
